Queensland’s biggest annual show returns this winter, and it’s not to be missed for ten days of regional agriculture, live entertainment, animal displays, and good food! The Royal Queensland Show, or the Ekka as it’s more widely known, takes place each year in Brisbane, and attracts an average of 400,000 people from all over Australia. Held by the Royal National Agriculture and Industrial Association of Queensland (RNA), the Ekka celebrates everything wonderful that Queensland has to offer, and has been going since 1876!
The Ekka will once again fill the huge Brisbane Showgrounds with family-friendly entertainment and kids’ rides, a stunning display of regional agriculture and farm animals, food and market stalls, and heaps more. This year, don’t miss live music on the Gourmet Plaza Music Stage and the XXXX Stockmen’s Bar and Grill Music Stage, which will feature talents from all over Queensland, as well as a number of brass and marching bands at Ekka Loop. Animal shows and events will include Heritage Bank Pig Racing, Stud Beef Judging, and Canine Judging, as well as the Cat Competition, Horse Competition, Poultry Competition, and Pisciculture Competition! Kids’ entertainment will include Farmyard Friends Roving Characters, Farmer Rob, and a number of carnival rides scattered throughout the showgrounds – they can also get up close to a wide variety of farm animals at Animal Boulevard! There’ll be even more to enjoy with a number of displays and competitions, such as Bush Poetry, Decorated Cakes, Creative Arts & Crafts, Flower & Garden, Photography, Sculpture, and others.
For all your mouthwatering food and refreshments throughout the event, make sure to stop by the Royal Queensland Steakhouse, Woolworths Fresh Food Pavilion, and Gourmet Plaza! There will also be a number of licensed bars onsite, including the XXXX Stockmen’s Bar and Grill, XXXX Cattleman’s Bar, and the XXXX Woodchop Bar.
Each night of the Ekka will come alive with stunning evening show EkkaNITES, taking place in the Main Arena. It’s not to be missed, and will feature the Australian National Anthem, Queensland Harness Racing, Wild Colonial Boy Wagon Chase, Coco-Cola Dance Off, Lowd V8 Utes Super Challenge, Wheel Standing Monster Trucks Competition, Showtime FMX, Fireworks Spectacular, and more!
Don’t miss it this 2018! The Ekka returns to the Brisbane Showgrounds on August 10 to August 19.
