The Abbey Medieval Festival brings with it an extended program this year for its 29th event, offering an enriching experience for all the family that’s educational and heaps of fun at the same time. This popular annual event in Brisbane is a big fundraiser for the Abbey Museum of Art and Archaeology, and offers the perfect chance to discover the momentous Medieval Period over two stimulating days.
The Middle Ages, or Medieval Period, marked an important period in European history, which began with the fall of the Roman Empire in the 5th century and lasted until the 15th century; the beginning of the Renaissance and the Modern Period. The colourful Middle Ages marked several important events, including widespread migration and invasions, the rise of the Catholic Church, the Crusades, agricultural innovation, feudalism, and the flowering of art and architecture across Europe. Notable for its impressions of knights, jousting champions, castles, and battles, the Medieval Period was a significant time in history that is just as captivating as it was turbulent.
The annual Abbey Medieval Festival brings the Middle Ages to life with an immersive historical experience each year in Brisbane, which takes place over two days. All are welcome to come along and be part of this fantastic display of all things medieval, which features authentic banquets, street performers and re-enactors, jesters, lively music and dancing, children’s activities and games, medieval-themed markets, parades, as well as sports from the Middle Ages such as jousting and archery. Come dressed up in your best medieval costume and get stuck into an engaging experience that’s enjoyable for the whole family.
