WAVE FESTIVAL is an innovative new music program taking place over two nights at the Brisbane Powerhouse. The renowned Queensland Symphony Orchestra will work with some of Australia’s biggest and hottest names in music for Wave Festival, bringing an exciting mix of classical heritage, popular music, and modern technology together.
The first night of Wave Festival will see the Queensland Symphony Orchestra join forces with poet Luka Lesson, composer Heather Shannon, composer George Hamilton, and conductor Sarah-Grace Williams for an unmissable chamber orchestra concert with a modern touch. Opening the program will be classically-trained composer Heather Shannon, who – as well as being part of famous Australian alternative band The Jezabels – has composed film music, orchestral works, and chamber music. Poet Luka Lesson will take the stage next with a powerful performance of performance poetry and lyricism in a collaboration with composer George Hamilton. Closing the first part of Wave Festival will be a performance of John Adams’ Chamber Symphony.
The second part of Wave Festival’s first night will feature Aussie Hip-Hop icons Horrorshow perform with the Queensland Symphony Orchestra, celebrating their 10th anniversary. Horrorshow first-ever orchestral collaboration will include songs from their recent albums Bardo State and Kings Amongst Many, as well as more from Inside Story and The Grey Space – all performed with a classical touch from the Queensland Symphony Orchestra. On the second and final night of Wave Festival catch The Kite String Tangle (solo electronic project of Brisbane local Danny Harley) with the Queensland Symphony Orchestra, performing a unique blend of electronic and classical sounds. Danny Harley creates poignant yet groovy electronic music, which is sure to take on a new vibe alongside the prowess of the Queensland Symphony Orchestra.
Wave Festival will take place at the Brisbane Powerhouse on APRIL 20 and APRIL 21. It’s a must-attend for anyone who has a love for music, where for the first time the Queensland Symphony Orchestra pairs up with different music artists from different backgrounds to create something new and innovative for the Brisbane music scene. Don’t miss this groundbreaking music program coming to Brisbane in April.
